About the Estate
This is a rare opportunity to take on a truly special garden within a Grade I listed setting on a stunning private country estate near Bicester. The grounds span over 1,000 acres. The gardens themselves are mature and varied, including expansive parkland and lakeland, sweeping lawns, ancient woodland, a well-established vegetable and fruit garden, ornamental planting, a walled garden, and a beautiful water garden. With so much history and character, the estate is now ready for a knowledgeable and creative Senior Gardener to lead its restoration and bring it back to its full potential.
Role Responsibilities
This is a hands-on and rewarding position where you’ll take the lead across all aspects of the garden’s care and development. You’ll be responsible for managing and maintaining the diverse landscape, from formal lawns and ornamental borders to productive gardens and woodland areas, always with a thoughtful and detail-oriented approach.
You’ll oversee a small team of two gardeners, as well as apprentices and seasonal staff, offering guidance, training, and day-to-day direction. Alongside the practical work, you’ll ensure that all machinery, tools, and vehicles are properly maintained, with clear records kept for servicing and safety checks.
The role will suit someone who enjoys both the physical side of gardening and the wider vision — someone who can roll up their sleeves while also thinking creatively about long-term restoration and design.
