About the Family
A retired but very active couple are looking for a warm, capable live-in housekeeper to help manage their beautiful manor house in the Tetbury countryside, which serves as their main residence. The couple enjoy a busy and sociable lifestyle and regularly host lunches, dinners, and occasional houseguests. They also hold concerts in their music room from time to time and host a few larger gatherings throughout the year, so someone who enjoys being part of a lively household will fit in well.
The estate is supported by a small and friendly team, including another housekeeper and an occasional cleaner who assist within the household, as well as a Head Gardener and an Assistant Gardener who look after the grounds. The family value a positive, supportive working environment and place great importance on everyone working well together to keep the home and estate running smoothly.
Role Responsibilities
This is a varied and hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking pride in a well-run home, taking responsibility for the day-to-day presentation and smooth running of the eight-bedroom property to ensure the house is always clean, organised, and welcoming, while also helping to coordinate the household team, including overseeing one other housekeeper and occasionally working with an additional cleaner.
Daily duties include maintaining all rooms to a high standard, managing household and personal laundry, ironing, and caring for household items such as silver, brass, and antique furniture. There will also be occasional light sewing repairs and the organisation of storage areas throughout the house.
The role also involves supporting with entertaining when the family host guests. This may include assisting with light food preparation, helping in the kitchen during lunches or dinners, preparing guest bedrooms, and ensuring the house is ready before and after gatherings. Additional responsibilities include organising groceries, running occasional errands, managing recycling and household bins, cleaning fireplaces when required, and liaising with tradespeople alongside the Head Gardener when maintenance is needed. From time to time there may be light dog walking duties for the couple’s two cocker spaniels.
