About the Family
This is a warm and welcoming family with twin teenage daughters who spend most weekends at their beautiful home in the New Forest. It’s a much-loved countryside base where they come to relax, spend time outdoors, and enjoy a slower pace away from London. They’re looking for a capable and enthusiastic person to become a steady and trusted presence in the house, someone organised and proactive who enjoys helping things run smoothly, but who also genuinely enjoys spending time with teenagers and getting involved in family life.
The household is supported by two gardeners, a housekeeper who attends twice weekly, and a local cook. When the family are travelling or not in residence, there can be flexibility in the schedule.
The Role
This role would suit someone capable and naturally proactive who enjoys being helpful and involved. It’s a wonderful opportunity for someone who is organised, energetic and keen to learn the ins and outs of running a private household, while becoming a valued and trusted part of family life. The family are open-minded when it comes to experience and are much more interested in finding someone with the right attitude: someone positive, reliable and genuinely eager to learn, grow, and take pride in the role over time.
You’ll help ensure the five-bedroom property is always beautifully presented and ready for the family’s arrival each weekend, resetting bedrooms, restocking essentials, lighting the fire in winter, and adding thoughtful touches that make the house feel welcoming when they arrive from London.
You’ll also assist with the day-to-day running of the property, helping coordinate gardeners, contractors and suppliers, keeping on top of household inventories, and supporting with general organisation and administration. There are ongoing landscaping and property projects, so someone who enjoys learning about how a household runs behind the scenes would thrive here.
A lovely part of the role is supporting the twins. They are bright, active girls who enjoy being out and about locally, so the family would love someone who is happy to drive them to activities, help organise plans, and come up with fun ideas for things to do in the area. Being naturally engaging, upbeat and interested in what they enjoy will go a long way.
You’ll also help with the family diary, organising things like: dog care, seasonal events, local activities and small gatherings. The family enjoy hosting friends at the house, so you may occasionally help prepare for relaxed dinners or weekend guests, from sourcing local produce to helping plate or finish supper when the family arrives on Friday evenings.
Wardrobe organisation is another part of the role — helping with cleaning or tailoring, and keeping track of sports kit and sailing equipment.
Overall, this is a varied, hands-on role where no two weekends are quite the same. It’s a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys being helpful, organised and involved and who would love to grow into the role over time.
